A British teacher was found dead inside his colleague’s apartment in downtown Yangon yesterday.
Wounds were found on the head and chest of the 47-year-old victim, according the police.
The two men had been drinking on Friday night before fighting began between them, said the wife of the victim to the police.
She told the police that a girlfriend of the accused phoned her around 4 am on Saturday night and told her that the two men were arguing and fighting.
When the girlfriend called her boyfriend’s mobile phone, the accused allegedly picked up her call around 6:30am and told her that the victim was asleep, she said.
She contacted police yesterday after she discovered his body inside his 25-year-old colleague’s apartment.
The 25 year-old man remains at large. It is not yet known if anyone has been arrested and the identity of the man, who is understood to have been an international teacher, has not been released.
A spokesman for the Foreign Office said: “We are providing help and support to the family of a British national following a death in Rangoon, Burma, and are in touch with the local authorities.”
According to local reports, police want to question a 25-year-old British man who is said to be on the run but has not been identified. —Soe Win (MLA)
