“WE have a big plan to raise public awareness on cycling by conducting several educative programmes in the future,” said a member of Bicycle Network Myanmar, a local team established by bike lovers.
Since its establishment in July 2014 the team has made philanthropic activities and donations especially toward aiding natural disaster victims. Currently the team has over 2,000 members.
The team recently took a bike tour to Taninthayi mountain ranges, educating locals on the benefits of cycling and traffic rules during the tour, said its member Ko Tartee. “We plan to meet local Hluttaw representatives to discuss matters related to create specific roads for bicycle raiders, planning to distribute pamphlets designed to educate drivers about traffic rules.”
He went on to say that the team will start a public awareness campaign focussed on rules related to cyclists in Hlaingthaya and Shwepyitha townships in Yangon.
As part of its effort to promote cycling for everyone, the team has expanded its network in some parts of the country by linking bike lovers in Mandalay, Dawei, Thanbyuzayat, Thanlyin, Twantay, Daydaye, Phapon, Meiktila and Taunggyi.
