Authorities to take protective measures against riverbank erosion

AS PART OF its riverbank erosion control progamme across Mandalay, authorities will carry out protection measures against riverbank erosion next month, said U Toe Aung Lin, director of regional department of water resources and improvement of river systems.
After research, the department will invite tenders in November to implement the new project in 16 villages situated along the Ayeyawady River. Plans are underway to spend over Ks3.4 billion on river bank erosion prevention works in Singu, Madaya, Sintgaing, Myingyan, Taungtha, Patheingyi townships in PyinOoLwin, Kyaukse and Myingyan townships this year.
The department has already conducted protective measures against riverbank erosion after the water had receded.
The government performed the control of bank erosion in the region last FY with the use of K2.914 billion budgets in total.
Depending on the latest conditions of the waterway, project designs are likely to be changed. The department will make appropriate designs for each project, said U Toe Aung Lin.—Aung Thant Khaing
