THE ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Energy took place in Nay Pyi Taw, attracting senior officials from Australia, China, India, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Russia and the United States.
The four-day meeting was chaired by U Htein Lwin, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Electricity and Energy.
The meeting focused on future action plans for further cooperation in the energy sector, with its chairman describing the development of energy as crucial to the ASEAN region and its partners as well.
An agreement has been reached between the ASEAN countries to use energy in a clean manner in a bid to be more sustainable and sufficient. The outcomes of the meeting will be brought before the 34th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting scheduled for September for approval.
Myanmar hosted the 27th ministerial meeting in 2009.
