A solo art exhibition titled “In Essence” by artist Hla Thein Aung is being held at River Ayeyawady Gallery, featuring ink sketches and watercolours.
“My works have been exhibited at more than a hundred group shows since I entered the art world in 1968, but this is the first time I’ve held a solo show,” said artist Hla Thein Aung, who is a former high school teacher.
“The event runs from 19 to 23 September, overlapping with the artist’s 80th birthday,” said the gallery’s founder, U Nay Min Latt.
He added that seven of Hla Thein Aung’s ink paintings were sold on the opening day of the exhibition.
Ink sketches will be sold for K50,000 (US$38), and watercolour paintings will sell for K200,000 ($155).
The exhibition features outdoor landscapes, which Hla Thein Aung painted while travelling around Myanmar’s dry central plains, including those in Mandalay and Sagaing regions.
The River Ayeyawady Gallery is located on 35th Street in Kyauktada Township in downtown Yangon.
