Union ministers and authorities discussed arrangements for departmental staff and displaced locals to be provided with assistance and security when they resume their duties in Maungtaw.
The meeting held in Rakhine State Regional Government in Sittwe yesterday was attended by Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Kyaw Swe, Union Minister for Border Affairs Lt-Gen Ye Aung , Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Win Myat Aye , Rakhine State Chief Minister U Nyi Pu, Rakhine State Cabinet ministers and departmental officials.
They discussed matters related to staff who abandoned their homes out of fear as violent attacks on border police outposts occurred in the small hours of October 9. Existing personnel are serving in their places of duty under heavy security by the Tatmataw-Police-Combined Forces. In other business, building roads connecting villages, implementation of projects small-scale hydro power plants and opening vocational training schools for locals to acquire technical knowledge were also discussed. The Myanmar Police Force is cooperating with the Tatmadaw in order to achieve regional stability in Maungtaw, Rakhine State.—Myanmar News Agency
