Agricultural exports top last year’s earnings

Agricultural exports as of 4th November this fiscal year earned US$155.395million more than the same period of last year, according to statistics from the Commerce Ministry.
Exports for in this fiscal year hit US$1,613.212million, whereas in the similar period of last fiscal year the figure was US$ 1,457.817million. Rice, peas and maize are the main exports from the agricultural sector. Myanmar’s rice and corn are exported mostly to China through border gates while various type of peas go to India as well as China.
The volume of rice and broken rice exports as of 28thOctober in this fiscal year was 578,214 tonnes worth US$198.963million. The volume of rice exports was 425,924 tonnes worth about US$155million while 152,290 tonnes of broken rice worth over US$43million were exported.
The export volume slumped by over 201,000 tonnes when compared to that of similar period of last fiscal year, according to the statistics of the Commerce Ministry.
